Let K be a field, K/K the separable closure and GK the absolute Galois group of K, l,p are fixed primes.

Definition An l-adic representation of GK is a finite dimensional Ql-vector space V with a continuous action of GK, ρ:GKGL(V)GLd(Ql), d=dimV.

Since GK is compact, we can always choose an Zl-lattice TV that is GK-stable, i.e. ρ(GK)TT. Then we can define the l-adic Galois representation VQl:=TZlQl.
